I Looove It

Los Angeles Times writer Carina Chocano on "Rent" the movie:

"Rent" is commodified faux bohemia on a platter, eliciting the same kind of numbing soul-sadness as children's beauty pageants, tiny dogs in expensive boots, Mahatma Gandhi in Apple ads."

Read the rest of her hilariously scathing review here.

Hmm. Not consciously, but I suppose I am.
I think contemporary "heroes" (for lack of a better term) are few and far between, so when they do pop up it's good to take notice.

Nina! It's Mia R. from UP, we took up photography together...and I'm not sure how else to describe myself without giving out my full name for everyone to see. I would hitch a ride with you to Makati, too :) Anyway. Found your blog some time ago (jumping from cynthia's blog and just wandering aimlessly, then saw a blog with a link to you and ta-dah!!), could only post a comment now that i'm a member. Saw you at the Inquirer office some months back. I was upstairs and calling you from the balcony but you wouldn't look up and you had that i-could-swear-someone-was-calling-me-or-is-my-mind-playing-tricks-on-me look. Whew. Just wanted to say hi!

Hi Mia! OF COURSE I remember you!!! So that WAS you calling my name at the PDI (not to mention that yes, so there WAS someone calling my name after all).

Hmm. I'm thinking of a way to get in touch with you by email or phone, except I don't want to post any of that info here. Are you a friend of Cynthia's? :)

Well, yes, I'm sort of a friend of Cynthia's :) Met her through an egroup and she's been kind enough to let me contribute to her magazine. I guess I'm probably more like a fan! She has my phone number and my email. I will email her too. Nice to hear from you!
